Victorian Home, Harrogate
Victorian flair with 21st century elements
*INTERIOR CURRENTLY IN CONSTRUCTION PHASE*
Situated just a few minutes’ walk away from the town centre of Harrogate, the family wanted a space which allowed social entertaining and interaction to be at the forefront. They love the original features and tall ceilings of the house but felt that it was important to convert the space to suit modern day living. We introduced warm, neutral green tones into the kitchen cabinetry to create an inviting feel and paired it with a slightly more traditional Calacatta marble with a subtle gold vein running through. The gold vein purposely compliments the antique brass hardware on all cupboard fronts. Finally, a warm wood plank to create a herringbone effect on the floor is the perfect nod to a Victorian home while still feeling very modern.
Leading into the exterior courtyard, we also installed matt black Crittall-style doors and put a frameless skylight in the pitched roof to increase the natural lighting levels, all of which complement the traditional elements of the design.
The rear courtyard needed a big re-think in order for the interior space to cohesively work with it. We used a natural limestone tile for the majority of the space and introduced a composite rustic plank to create a slightly raised decking area in the corner. A bespoke open timber pavilion creates the perfect entertaining space for outside. Finally, the garden lacked privacy and so creating the horizontal slatted fencing around the entire perimeter of the space provided that much needed peaceful solitude. Matt black ambient lighting complements and naturally leads your eye around the courtyard, without being an eyesore.
